Dr. Doug Ryen earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2000. He joined Pickerington Eye Care in 2001, where he continues to see patients. He purchased Newark Optometry in 2019 from his former classmates – Dr. Cheryl Wood Eckhardt and Dr. Kathy Wise – when they decided to begin the retirement process. He then purchased the New Lexington location from his colleague, Dr. Robert Dittoe.
Dr. Ryen’s wife, Kelly, is also an optometrist; she currently sees patients in Zanesville and had worked with Dr. Dittoe in the past. They have two daughters, Elin and Isla, who attend St. Francis Elementary in Newark.
Dr. Ryen is currently a member of the American Optometric Association and Ohio Optometric Association. Originally from Punxsutawney, PA, he graduated in 1996 from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He is an avid Nittany Lions, Steelers, and Buckeyes fan, and enjoys playing golf.
